Annual inflation rate in Jordan increased to 5.7 percent in July of 2018 from 5.1 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since deflation ended in November of 2016. Prices advanced faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (5.1 percent from 4 percent in June); housing (4.2 percent from 3.6 percent); transport (13.5 percent from 11.9 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (14.5 percent from 14.3 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for furniture & household equipment (1.7 percent from 2 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.9 percent from 2.3 percent); health (7.4 percent from 7.5 percent) and recreation & culture (2.5 percent from 2.6 percent). Also, inflation was steady for education (3 percent, the same as in June) and restaurant & hotels (7.8 percent), while prices fell further for clothing & footwear (-2.3 percent from -2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2 percent, following a 0.1 percent gain in June.

Jordan Producer Prices Change at 7.80 percent  
Producer prices in Jordan increased 7.8 percent year-on-year in May of 2018, up from an upwardly revised 5.8 percent rise in the previous month. It was the highest producer inflation since June of 2017 when producer prices fell 0.2 percent. Prices advanced faster for manufacturing (8.1 percent from 5.6 percent in April), namely machinery & equipment (2.1 percent from 2 percent); motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (9.5 percent from 7.5 percent); paper & paper products (18.6 percent from 14 percent); refined petroleum products (16.3 percent from 10.6 percent); chemicals & chemicals products (8.2 percent from 7 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for mining & quarrying (12.1 percent from 14.9 percent). Meanwhile, electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning supply (-2.1 percent from 3.1 percent) decreased at a softer pace. On a monthly basis, producer prices went up 1.7 percent, after a 0.3 percent drop in April.

Contrarily, output rebounded for mining & quarrying (0.3 percent from -0.4 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial activity went up 1.2 percent from 1.8 percent in April. Considering the first five months of 2018, industrial production shrank 6.5 percent.
