Fiji Consumer Prices Drop the Least in 5 Months

Consumer prices in Fiji fell 1.4% year-on-year in November 2025, following a 3.4% decline in the previous month, marking the tenth consecutive month of deflation.

It was also the softest pace of deflation since June, driven by slower decreases in food and non-alcoholic beverages (-3.9% vs -8.4% in October), transport (-4.3% vs -6.2%), and housing (-1.6% vs -2.5%), while clothing and footwear remained unchanged at -3.9%.

On the other hand, recreation and culture prices declined at a faster pace (-1.6% vs -1.3%), while furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance fell 0.5% after rising 0.8% in October.

In contrast, upward price pressures were observed in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.8% vs 3.9%), education (0.5% vs 0.5%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.7% vs 5.4%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.5% in November, rebounding from a 0.2% decline in October.

Consumer prices in Fiji fell 2.5% year-on-year in January 2026, after being flat in December 2025, mainly due to lower food and non-alcoholic beverage prices (-7.6% vs 0.1% in December). Downward price pressures were also seen in transport (-4.8% vs -5.3%), housing (-2.9% vs -2.2%), clothing and footwear (-2.8% vs -2.7%), recreation and culture (-2.0% vs -1.7%), and furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (-0.6% vs -1.3%). Upward price pressures came from alcoholic beverages and tobacco (8.3% vs 6.4%), education (0.5% vs 0.5%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.8% vs 5.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.8% in January, reversing a 1.2% increase in December and marking the first monthly decline in three months.

In contrast, downward price pressures were observed in transport (-5.3% vs -4.3%), housing (-2.2% vs -1.6%), clothing and footwear (-2.7% vs -3.9%), recreation and culture (-1.7% vs -1.6%), and furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (-1.3% vs -0.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 1.2% in December, after a 0.5% increase in November, marking the fastest rise in 11 months.
