Prices continued to advance for transport (5.50 percent vs 5.02 percent in March), rental and housing services (1.74 percent vs 1.17 percent), restaurants and hotels (1.90 percent vs 1.72 percent), recreation and culture (1.87 percent vs 1.39 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (1.10 percent vs 0.93 percent) and education (4.05 percent vs 4 percent). Meanwhile, cost eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.13 percent vs 0.72 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.15 percent, following a 0.42 percent drop in March.

Costa Rica GDP Annual Growth Rate at 4.21 percent  
Costa Rica's economy advanced 4.2 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2016, accelerating from a 3.4 percent expansion in the previous period. The output grew faster for: communications (7.6 percent vs 7.2 percent in Q3); wholesale and retail trade (4.4 percent vs 4.1 percent) and professional, scientific, administrative and social support (7.9 percent vs 6.2 percent in Q3). Also, output advanced for agriculture (8.8 percent vs 5.2 percent in Q3) and rebounded for mining (1.9 percent vs -12.8 percent in Q3) and construction (5.9 percent vs -12 percent in Q3). Meanwhile, it increased at a slower pace for transport and warehouse (2.6 percent vs 4.3 percent in Q3), financial activities (7.3 percent vs 10.7 percent in Q3) and manufacturing (4.1 percent vs 5.7 percent in Q3). On a quarterly basis, the GDP advanced 4.3 percent. Considering 2016, the economy expanded 4.3 percent.
