Consumer prices in Costa Rica rose 2.49 percent year-on-year in November of 2017, following a 2.33 percent gain in the previous month. It is the highest inflation rate since March of 2015, as prices advanced at a faster pace for: food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.38 percent compared to 3.77 percent in October); transport (3.78 percent compared to 3.63 percent); housing & utilities (3.28 percent compared to 3.07 percent); education (3.95 percent compared to 3.93 percent); furniture & household equipment (0.27 percent compared to 0.12 percent) and health (4.57 percent compared to 4.51 percent). Meantime, inflation slowed for restaurants & hotels (1.51 percent compared to 1.64 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.80 percent compared to 2.03 percent); recreation & culture (1.06 percent compared to 1.17 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (4.06 percent compared to 4.58 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.16 percent.

Costa Rica GDP Annual Growth Rate at 4.00 percent  
Costa Rica's economy advanced 4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017, compared to a 3.9 percent expansion in the previous period. Faster growth was observed for: agriculture, forestry and fishing (4.6 percent vs 0.8 percent in Q1); mining (2.1 percent vs 1.1 percent); construction (2.6 percent vs 1.1 percent); transport (5.7 percent vs 5.6 percent) and professional, scientific, technical and support services (10.6 percent vs 9.9 percent). Meanwhile, the sectors growing at a softer pace were: manufacturing (3.1 percent vs 4.5 percent); retail and wholesale trade (2.8 percent vs 3.6 percent); food and accommodation services (1.3 percent vs 1.4 percent); information and communication (6.2 percent vs 6.6 percent) and public administration (1.8 percent vs 2.3 percent). On a quarterly basis, the GDP rose 4.4 percent compared to a 3.5 expansion in the previous quarter.
