Annual inflation rate in Costa Rica went up to 2.24 percent in August of 2018 from 2.08 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since April, as prices advanced faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.5 percent from 0.5 percent in July); miscellaneous goods & services (0.3 percent from 0.1 percent) and health (3.5 percent from 3.4 percent); and fell less for clothing & footwear (-3.4 percent from -3.6 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (5 percent, the same as in July) and furniture & household equipment (1.4 percent). Contrarily, cost slowed for transport (5.9 percent from 6.2 percent); restaurant & hotels (1.4 percent from 1.5 percent); recreation & culture (0.6 percent from 1 percent); education (3.6 percent from 3.7 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.2 percent from 2.7 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.07 percent, following a 0.28 percent gain in July.
