Costa Rica Inflation Rate Picks Up

The annual inflation rate in Costa Rica rose by 0.95% in December 2024, following a marginal 0.1% decrease in the previous month, marking the third increase in the last nineteen months and the largest in the series.
Prices rebounded for communications (0.66% vs. -0.35% in November), while they accelerated for food and beverages (2.60% vs. 0.79%), health (1.56% vs. 1.47%), and housing and utilities (4.91% vs. 4.87%), while the decline in transport (-4.48% vs. -5.72%) slowed.
In contrast, price growth eased for restaurants and hotels (2.81% vs. 3.02%), while education (1.52%) remained steady.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.94%, following a 0.47% increase in the prior month.
