Cape Verde Inflation Rate Falls to Over 1-Year Low

The annual inflation rate in Cape Verde cooled down to 1.4% in January, the lowest since December 2024, from 3.3% in the prior month. Price growth moderated mostly for food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.7% vs 5.8% in December); restaurants & hotels (9% vs 9.9%) and clothing and footwear (6.9% vs 10.5%). Moreover, housing and utilities (-4.5% vs 0%) and transportation (-1.5% vs -0.7%) costs fell. On the other hand, prices picked up for furnishing & household equipment (8.4% vs 4.6%). On a monthly basis, the CPI decreased by 1.7%, after a 1% rise in the previous month.

The annual inflation rate in Cape Verde accelerated to 3.3% in December 2025, up from 2.1% in November, marking the highest level since June 2023. The increase was mainly driven by faster rises in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.8% vs 1.2% in November), the fastest pace since September 2023. Inflation also accelerated for hotels, restaurants, and cafés (9.9% vs 9.7%) and health (1.8% vs 1.5%), while housing prices were unchanged after declining 0.2% in November. Meanwhile, inflation moderated in miscellaneous goods and services (3.0% vs 3.2%), clothing and footwear (10.5% vs 12.0%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6.3% vs 6.4%), and recreation and culture (0.7% vs 0.8%), while furnishings and household equipment remained steady at 4.6%. In contrast, transport prices fell by 0.7% after edging up 0.1% in November. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 1.0% in December, accelerating from a 0.4% increase in the previous month, marking the fastest monthly rise since July 2022.

The annual inflation rate in Cape Verde accelerated for the first time in three months to 2.1% in November 2025, up from October’s ten-month low of 1.6%. The pickup was mainly driven by rebounds in prices for transportation (0.1% vs -1.4%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages, which rose 1.2% after a 0.9% drop in October, marking the highest level in three months. Additionally, accelerated inflation was recorded in alcoholic beverages & tobacco (6.4% vs 5.7%), hotels, restaurants & cafes (9.7% vs 9.6%), and miscellaneous goods & services (3.2% vs 3.0%). Meanwhile, inflation eased for clothing & footwear (12.0% vs 15.0%), furnishings & household equipment (4.6% vs 4.7%), and recreation & culture (0.8% vs 1.1%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.4% in November after edging down 0.1% in the previous month, marking the largest increase in four months.
