Burundi Consumer Prices Rise at Faster Pace in October

Consumer prices in Burundi increased 17.6 percent year-on-year in October of 2017, following a 15.3 percent rise in September.
Prices advanced at a faster pace for food and non-alcoholic beverages (27.8 percent compared to 23.4 percent in September); transport (11.1 percent compared to 7.8 percent); health (2.4 percent compared to 2.3 percent); furniture and housing equipment (8.3 percent compared to 7.4 percent); recreation and culture (7.9 percent compared to 6.4 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (6.6 compared to 4.4 percent) and education (35.8 percent compared to 31.4 percent).
In contrast, prices rose at a softer pace for housing and utilities (7.0 percent compared to 7.4 percent); clothing and footwear (2.9 percent compared to 5.5 percent) On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.4 percent after a 1.8 percent increase in the prior month.
