Botswana Inflation Rate at 3.40 percent  
Botswana’s annual inflation rate increased to 3.4 percent in April of 2018 from 2.8 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since August last year, as prices rose faster for transport (6.3 percent from 4.0 percent in March); miscellaneous goods & services (8.5 percent from 3.2 percent); clothing & footwear (2.1 percent from 2.0 percent); communication (1.3 percent from 1.2 percent) and restaurant & hotels (3.6 percent from 3.3 percent). On the other hand, cost fell for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.1 percent from 0.1 percent) and inflation was steady for education (5.5 percent, the same as in March). Additionally, prices eased for housing & utilities (3.3 percent from 5.7 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (0.7 percent from 1.4 percent); furnishing & household equipment (2.2 percent from 2.3 percent) and health (1.3 percent from 1.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.3 percent, after increasing 0.1 percent in March.

Botswana GDP Annual Growth Rate at 6.50 percent  
The economy of Botswana expanded 6.5 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2017, following a downwardly revised 1.1 percent growth in the previous period. It is the strongest expansion of gross domestic product since the third quarter of 2016. Output rebounded for trade, hotels and restaurants (18.1 percent vs -9.3 percent in Q3), mainly due to the inclusion of diamond aggregation processes in the wholesale sub sector. Additionally, output increased further for general government (3.8 percent vs 1.9 percent); social services (3.5 percent vs 2.7 percent); manufacturing (4.1 percent vs 3.3 percent) and agriculture (2.6 percent vs 2.0 percent). Meanwhile, growth slowed for mining (0.2 percent vs 3.2 percent); construction (3.3 percent vs 3.5 percent); finance (4.6 percent vs 4.8 percent) and transport (3.8 percent vs 4.5 percent). On a quarterly basis, the GDP rose 5.5 percent, after a 1.1 percent contraction in Q3. Considering full 2017, the economy grew 2.4 percent.
