Botswana Inflation Rate at 3.60 percent  
The annual inflation rate in Botswana rose to 3.6 percent in October of 2018 from 2.9 percent in September. It was the highest inflation rate since January 2015, as prices advanced faster for transport (11% from 7.3% in September); housing & utilities (3.5% from 3.4%) and alcoholic beverages, tobacco & narcotics (1.1% from 0.8%). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for education (at 5.4%, the same as in September) and health (at 1.0%); while cost fell at the same pace as in the prior month for communication (-9.1%). Contrarily, prices slowed for clothing & footwear (1.4% from 1.6%); miscellaneous goods & services (6.8% from 7.4%); furnishings & household equipment (2.0% from 2.2%) and restaurants & hotels (3.2% from 3.4%); and fell further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.1% from -0.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.7 percent.

The economy expanded 4.4 percent in the twelve months to June and it is projected to improve in the short to medium term driven by a recovery in the mining sector and services.

On a quarterly basis, the GDP advanced 2.4 percent, after contracting 1.5 percent in the first quarter of the year.
