Botswana Inflation Rate at 3.10 percent  
Botswana's annual inflation rate fell to 3.1 percent in June of 2018 from 3.3 percent in May. Prices dropped further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.6 percent compared to -0.5 percent in May) and rose less for miscellaneous goods and services (7.5 percent compared to 8.5 percent). Also, cost of communication went down 8.2 percent after rising 1.2 percent in May as revised prepaid voice call tariffs by mobile service providers went into effect on the 1st June 2018. On the other hand, inflation accelerated for housing and utilities (3.6 percent compared to 3.4 percent), transport (7.5 percent compared to 6.2 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.7 percent compared to 0.5 percent) and clothing and footwear (2.2 percent compared to 2.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat after edging up 0.1 percent in May.

Botswana GDP Annual Growth Rate at 4.80 percent  
The economy of Botswana grew 4.8 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2018, easing from a 6.5 percent expansion in the previous period. Output dropped for trade, hotels and restaurants (-0.7 percent vs 18.1 percent in Q4 2017), mostly due to the wholesale sub sector as diamond industries contribution declined. Additionally, output growth slowed for general government (2.8 percent vs 3.8 percent). Meanwhile, output increased faster for mining (12.1 percent vs 0.2 percent); transport (6.5 percent vs 3.8 percent) and finance (5.4 percent vs 4.6 percent). Also, output continued to rise for manufacturing (4.4 percent from 4.1 percent); social services (3.6 percent vs 3.5 percent); agriculture (3.1 percent vs 2.6 percent) and construction (3.5 percent vs 3.3 percent). On a quarterly basis, the GDP shrank 1.5 percent, after expanding 5.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017.
