The Central Bank of Botswana held its benchmark interest rate steady at 2.65% on April 28th 2023, to continue supporting the domestic economy while containing inflationary pressures.
Governor Moses Pelaelo said inflation should trend downwards in 2023 and is expected to reach the 3%-6% objective in the second quarter of 2024, despite the expected fluctuations.
The annual inflation rate in Botswana picked up to 9.9% in March 2023 from an over one-year low of 9.1% in the previous month, far above the central bank's 3%-6% target range.
