Bangladesh Inflation Rate Hits 5-Month High

The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh rose to 8.49% in December 2025 from 8.29% in the previous month.
It marked the highest reading since July 2025, as prices increased at a faster pace in food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.71% vs 7.36% in November), housing and utilities (7.97% vs 7.62%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (12.14% vs 12.1%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (7.56% vs 7.46%), communication (8.64% vs 8.49%), recreation and culture (8.41% vs 8.29%), and miscellaneous goods and services (19.7% vs 18.54%).
On the other hand, costs moderated for transport (7.28% vs 7.38%), clothing and footwear (12.11% vs 12.43%), health (3.87% vs 4.05%), education (7.61% vs 8.42%), and restaurants and hotels (9.37% vs 10.37%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.84%, slipping further from a 0.39% drop in November 2025.
