Bangladesh Inflation Rate Hits 5-Month High

The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh rose to 8.49% in December 2025 from 8.29% in the previous month.

It marked the highest reading since July 2025, as prices increased at a faster pace in food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.71% vs 7.36% in November), housing and utilities (7.97% vs 7.62%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (12.14% vs 12.1%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (7.56% vs 7.46%), communication (8.64% vs 8.49%), recreation and culture (8.41% vs 8.29%), and miscellaneous goods and services (19.7% vs 18.54%).

On the other hand, costs moderated for transport (7.28% vs 7.38%), clothing and footwear (12.11% vs 12.43%), health (3.87% vs 4.05%), education (7.61% vs 8.42%), and restaurants and hotels (9.37% vs 10.37%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.84%, slipping further from a 0.39% drop in November 2025.

The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh rose to 8.29% in November 2025, picking up from a more than three-year low of 8.17% in the previous month. The upturn was primarily driven by higher prices in food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.36% vs 7.08% in October), transport (7.38% vs 6.8%), communication (8.49% vs 8.41%), education (8.42% vs 8.38%), and miscellaneous goods and services (18.54% vs 17.42%). In contrast, costs increased at a softer pace for housing (7.62% vs 7.81%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (12.1% vs 12.67%), clothing and footwear (12.43% vs 13.57%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (7.46% vs 7.79%), health (4.05% vs 4.09%), recreation and culture (8.29% vs 8.45%), and restaurants and hotels (10.37% vs 10.44%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.39%, reversing a 1.89% rise in the previous month.

Bangladesh Inflation Rate Drops to Over 3-Year Low
The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh fell to 8.17% in October 2025 from 8.36% in the previous month, marking the lowest reading since July 2022. Price growth slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.08% vs 7.64% vs 7.6% in September), clothing and footwear (13.57% vs 13.90%), restaurants and hotels (10.44% vs 10.96%), and education (8.38% vs 8.71%). Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (12.68% vs 12.65%), housing and utilities (7.81% vs 7.63%), furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (7.79% vs 7.76%), transport (6.80% vs 6.31%), health (4.09% vs 3.85%), communication (8.41% vs 7.81%), recreation and culture (8.45% vs 8.09%), and miscellaneous goods and services (17.42% vs 16.91%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.89%, accelerating from September's 3-month low of 1.05% gain.
