Bangladesh Inflation Rate Eases to 4-Month Low

Bangladesh’s annual inflation rate slowed to 9.94% in January 2025 from 10.89% in December 2024.
This marked the lowest inflation rate since September, as prices moderated in most of the sub-indices, namely; food and non-alcoholic beverages (10.72% vs 12.92% in December), housing and utilities (9.02% vs 9.67%), transport (6.06% vs 6.08%), health (4.16% vs 5.17%), communication (9.22% vs 9.72%), recreation and culture (6.58% vs 7.92%), education (8.87% vs 9.14%), restaurants and hotels (11.51% vs 12.13%), and miscellaneous goods and services (12.76% vs 14.85%).
Meanwhile, costs accelerated for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (26.9% vs 17.13%) and furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (7.56% vs 6.96%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.15%, rebounding from a 1.02% fall in December 2024.
