Angola Inflation Rate Falls for 23rd Month

The annual inflation rate in Angola continued to decelerate to 10.11% in June 2026 from 10.88% in May, marking the lowest since 2015 and the 23rd consecutive month of slowdown.

The stabilization of the kwanza has been cited as the main moderating factor.

Prices slowed down for most CPI categories, including food & non-alcoholic beverages (10.73% vs 11.33% in May); housing & utilities (11.14% vs 14.32%); transportation (15.40% vs 15.73%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (8.64% vs 9.22%); clothing & footwear (6.59% vs 7.39%).

On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.52% in June, little changed from the 0.53% increase recorded in May.

Angola’s annual inflation rate eased to 10.88% in May 2026 from 11.58% in April, marking the lowest since May 2023 and extending the downward trend observed since mid-2024. The relative stability of the exchange rate has helped limit inflationary pressures. Prices continued to slow for most CPI categories, including food & non-alcoholic beverages (11.33% vs 11.96% in April); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (9.22% vs 9.63%); clothing & footwear (7.39% vs 8.47%); housing & utilities (14.32% vs 15.17%); transportation (15.73% vs 16.45%); hotels & restaurants (6.07% vs 6.62%), among others. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.53% in May, after a 0.58% increase in the previous month.

Angola’s annual inflation rate fell to 11.58% in April 2026 from 12.42% in the prior month, marking the lowest since June 2023 and continuing the downward trend observed since mid-2024. The exchange rate has remained broadly stable, helping to contain inflationary pressures. Price-growth moderated for several CPI categories, including food & non-alcoholic beverages (11.96% vs 12.72% in March); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (9.63% vs 11.03%); clothing & footwear (8.47% vs 10.14%); housing & utilities (15.17% vs 15.49%); transportation (16.45% vs 16.59%); hotels & restaurants (6.62% vs 8.14%), among others. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.58% in April, after a 0.55% increase in the previous month.
