Angola Inflation Rate Falls for 23rd Month

The annual inflation rate in Angola fell further to 8.78% in August 2026 from 9.33% in July, marking the lowest since April 2015 and extending the downward trend observed since mid-2024. The moderation in inflation has been attributed mainly to the relative stability of the kwanza and improvements in the domestic supply of essential goods. Price growth eased for several CPI categories, including food & non-alcoholic beverages (9.94% vs 10.40% in July); clothing & footwear (6.20% vs 6.30%); housing & utilities (8.24% vs 10.17%); miscellaneous goods & services (6.02% vs 6.38%) and education (19.33% vs 25.24%). Meanwhile, prices increased slightly faster for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (9.02% vs 8.61%) and transportation (3.67% vs 3.65%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.59%, slowing from a 0.75% increase in the prior month.

The annual inflation rate in Angola continued to ease to 9.33% in July 2026 from 10.11% in June, remaining near its lowest level since 2015. This marked the 24th consecutive month of deceleration, mainly attributed to the sustained stability of the kwanza and improvements in the domestic supply of essential goods. Softer price growth was observed across most categories, particularly transportation (3.65% vs 15.40% in June). A similar trend was seen in prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (10.40% vs 10.73%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (8.61% vs 8.64%); clothing & footwear (6.30% vs 6.59%); housing & utilities (10.17% vs 11.14%) and miscellaneous goods & services (6.38% vs 7.50%). Conversely, education (25.24% vs 13.40%) and communication (6.67% vs 6.40%) recorded stronger increases. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.75% in July, after a 0.52% increase in the prior month.

The annual inflation rate in Angola continued to decelerate to 10.11% in June 2026 from 10.88% in May, marking the lowest since 2015 and the 23rd consecutive month of slowdown. The stabilization of the kwanza has been cited as the main moderating factor. Prices slowed down for most CPI categories, including food & non-alcoholic beverages (10.73% vs 11.33% in May); housing & utilities (11.14% vs 14.32%); transportation (15.40% vs 15.73%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (8.64% vs 9.22%); clothing & footwear (6.59% vs 7.39%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.52% in June, little changed from the 0.53% increase recorded in May.
