International arrivals to Vietnam jumped by 1,274.1 percent year-on-year to 172.9 thousand in May of 2022, compared with a 420.6 percent growth in the prior month. May's strong figure was due to the 31st Southeast Asian Games held in the country from May 12th to 23rd as well as a new tourism campaign launched by the government at the end of 2021 following accelerated vaccinations and easing COVID-19 curbs. Visitors from Asia climbed 882 percent, namely China (59.1 percent), South Korea (1,254.6 percent), Japan (856.4 percent), Taiwan (2,557.2 percent), and Malaysia (5,774.4 percent). Also, visitors from America soared 4,569.7 percent, mainly the US (5,559.7 percent); while those from Europe jumped 2,239.4 percent), of which, Russia (725.6 percent), the UK (3,915.7 percent), France (3,998.6 percent), and Germany (3,851.3 percent); and visitors from Australia climbed 6,479.8 percent.
