Uruguay March Inflation Rate at Over 1-Year High
The annual inflation rate in Uruguay accelerated for the fourth straight month to 9.38% in March of 2022, from 8.85% in the previous month. It was the highest reading since December of 2020, underpinned by prices of transportation (12.55% vs 13.1% in February), food and non-alcoholic beverages (12.35% vs 10.28%), restaurants and hotels (9.54% vs 8.68%), housing and utilities (6.64% vs 6.69%) and furnishings (8.08% vs 8.99%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 1.11%, slowing from a 1.47% rise in the previous month.
