UK Business Investment Rises More than Expected
Business investment in the UK increased 1 percent on quarter in the last three months of 2021, following a revised 0.7 percent increase in the third quarter, above estimates of a 0.9 percent gain. Year-on-year, business investment rose 1 percent, compared to earlier estimates of a 0.8 percent decrease and after an upwardly revised 5.1 percent jump in the third quarter. Business investment is now 8.6% below pre-coronavirus levels, up from a first quarterly estimate of being 10.4% below. Considering full 2021, business investment went up 0.8 percent, recovering from an 11.5 percent slump in 2020.
