Ukraine Inflation Rate Accelerates to Over 4-Year High
The annual inflation rate in Ukraine accelerated to 16.4 percent in April of 2022 from 13.7 percent in the previous month, the highest since September of 2017 as the country endured the second month of Russia’s invasion. Costs accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (22.4 percent vs 18.9 percent in March), transportation (18.2 percent vs 16.4 percent), housing and utilities (7.2 percent vs 6.9 percent), furniture and household equipment (10.6 percent vs 6.6 percent), healthcare (14.7 percent vs 12.1 percent) and restaurants and hotels (12.2 percent vs 11.1 percent). The core inflation rate was a 13 percent, the highest since 2016 and picking up from the 10.5 percent in the previous month. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 3.1 percent, easing since the 7-year high of 4.5 percent from March.
Ukraine Inflation Rate Picks Up to Over 4-Year High
The annual inflation rate in Ukraine accelerated to 13.7 percent in March of 2022 from 10.7 percent in the previous month, the highest since February of 2018 and well above the central bank’s medium-term target of 5 percent. Cost rose faster for transport (16.4 percent from 13.7 percent); food & non-alcoholic beverages (18.9 percent from 14.3 percent); housing & utilities (6.9 percent from 6.4 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (9.8 percent from 9.2 percent); furniture & household equipment (6.6 percent from 4.1 percent); health (12.1 percent from 6.9 percent); communication (8.5 percent from 7.6 percent); recreation & culture (5.6 percent from 4.5 percent); restaurant & hotels (11.1 percent from 10.1 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (10.1 percent from 8.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 4.5 percent, the most since April 2015.
Ukraine Inflation Rate at 4-Month High
The annual inflation rate in Ukraine jumped to 10.7 percent in February of 2022 after remaining steady at 10 percent for the last two months. It was the highest inflation rate since October of 2021 and was much higher than central bank’s medium-term target of 5 percent. Prices advanced at a faster pace for food & non-alcoholic beverages (14.3 percent vs 14 percent in January), transport (13.7 percent vs 11.4 percent), housing & utilities (6.4 percent vs 4.3 percent); health (6.9 percent vs 6.2 percent); and household goods (4.1 percent vs 3.9 percent ). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.6 percent, accelerating from a 1.3 percent increase in the previous month.
