Switzerland Retail Sales Fall the Most in 13 Months
Retail sales in Switzerland slumped 6.6 percent year-on-year in March of 2022, reversing sharply from a downwardly revised 12.5 percent jump in the previous month. It was the first decline in retail sales in eight months, and its steepest fall since February 2021, as sales of non-food items fell strongly (-6.9 percent vs 31.2 percent in February), while those of food, beverages & tobacco dropped much more (-9.0 percent vs -2.6 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 0.8 percent, the most in seven months, accelerating from a downwardly revised 0.1 percent growth in February.

Retail sales in Switzerland surged 12.8 percent year-on-year in February of 2022, accelerating sharply from an upwardly revised 5.7 percent gain in the previous month. It was the strongest growth in retail sales since last April, as sales of non-food items advanced faster (33.8 percent vs 14.4 percent in January), while those of food, beverages & tobacco fell less (-3.3 percent vs -4.5 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 0.3 percent, recovering from a downwardly revised 0.3 percent drop in January.
