Compared to April 2021, spending rose 7.5%, with restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services accounting for the largest positive contribution and rising by 48.2%. Sweden Household Consumption Falls in December
Household spending in Sweden declined 2.8% month-over-month in December of 2021, the biggest drop since April of 2021. Compared with December 2020, household spending jumped 6.5 percent, mainly due to a 58.8 percent surge in spending in restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services.
Swedish Household Consumption Rises 1% in November
Household consumption in Sweden increased by 1.0 percent from a month earlier in November 2021, the same pace as in the previous month, with upward pressure coming from spending on clothing and footwear (8.7 percent vs 4.7 percent in October), food and beverages (1.6 percent vs 0.7 percent), furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables (4.6 percent vs -3.1 percent), post and telecommunications (3.5 percent vs -4.3 percent), recreation and culture, goods and services (1.4 percent vs 0.3 percent), housing and utilities (0.6 percent vs -0.4 percent), and other goods and services (6.4 percent vs 2.2 percent).
Swedish Household Consumption Rises Most for 5 Months
Sweden's household consumption rose by 0.8 percent from a month earlier in October 2021, accelerating from a 0.1 percent gain in September. It was the largest increase in consumption since May, as receipts were up at restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services (6.7 percent vs -1.9 percent in September), clothing and footwear stores (3.7 percent vs -5.6 percent), transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles (1.2 percent vs -0.6 percent), food and beverages stores (0.7 percent vs 0.6 percent), and recreation and culture, goods and services (0.7 percent, the same as in September).
