Spain Posts Widest Current Account Gap since 2013
Spain’s current account deficit rose sharply to EUR 2.60 billion in January of 2022 from EUR 0.85 billion in the same month a year ago. It was the largest current account shortfall since January of 2013, as the goods and services account deficit widened to EUR 1.96 billion from EUR 0.14 billion. Meanwhile, the primary and secondary income gap decreases to EUR 0.65 billion from EUR 0.72 billion a year earlier.
Spain Posts Widest Current Account Gap since 2019
Spain’s current account balance shifted to a deficit of EUR 1.31 billion in December of 2021, compared with a surplus of EUR 0.92 billion in the same period a year ago. It was the largest monthly current account shortfall since February of 2019, as the goods and services account changed to a deficit of EUR 1.72 billion compared to a surplus of EUR 0.65 billion. Meanwhile, the primary and secondary income surplus widened to EUR 0.42 billion from EUR 0.27 billion a year earlier.
Spain Current Account Surplus Narrows in November
Spain’s current account surplus shrank to EUR 1.01 billion in November of 2021, from EUR 3.02 billion during the corresponding month of the previous year. The goods and services account surplus widened to EUR 0.39 billion from EUR 2.01 billion in November of 2021 and the primary and secondary income surplus also narrowed to EUR 0.62 billion from EUR 1 billion a year earlier.
