South Korea Business Confidence
In South Korea, the Business Survey Index (BSI) in the manufacturing sector measures the level of optimism that business leaders have about the performance of the economy in the current month and their outlook for the following month. The Index is based on the survey of around 2800 companies in fifteen areas including sales, inventories, production facilities, prices, labor force and profitability. For each of the indicators measured, the net difference between the number of positive responses and the number of negative responses is computed. The BSI above 100 indicates an improving outlook and below 100 a deteriorating outlook.

The Business Survey Index (BSI) on business conditions in the manufacturing sector in South Korea rose to 87 in April of 2022 from 84 in the prior month, helped by the phasing out of Covid-19 restrictions. Also, the index measuring the outlook for May increased by 3 points to 88. In the non-manufacturing sector, the BSI on business conditions was 85, up 4 points from the previous month, while the outlook for the following month rose by 3 points to 85.

SK Business Confidence Drops to 13-Month Low
The Business Survey Index (BSI) on business conditions in the manufacturing sector in South Korea fell to 83 in March of 2022 from 91 in the previous month. Meantime, the index measuring the outlook for April decreased by 8 points to 85. In the non-manufacturing sector, the BSI on business conditions remained unchanged at 81 but that for the outlook for April fell by 2 points to 82. The economic sentiment index, a composite of the Business Survey Index and the Consumer Survey Index was down 2.3 points from the prior month to 103.4 in March.
