Somalia Inflation Rate Picks Up to 6.45% in April
The annual inflation rate in Somalia rose to 6.45% in April of 2022, from 6.08% in the previous month. Upward pressure came from prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (11.92% vs 11.97% in March), mainly due to an increase in prices of some foodstuffs, of which wheat (41.67%), oil and fats (73.03%), meat (13.45%) and vegetables (17.97%), as a result of unfavorable weather conditions and droughts. Additional contributions came from prices of clothing & footwear (7.69% vs 1.53%) and housing & utilities (4.57% vs 3.66%), namely liquid fuels (44.95%) and cooking gas (11.11%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up by 2.29%, after increasing 1.80% in the preceding month.

Somalia Inflation Rate Eases to 6.1%
Annual inflation rate in Somalia edged down to 6.1% in March of 2022 from 6.5% in February, amid a slowdown in prices of food (12% vs 12.7% in February). Also, prices continued to fall for education (-0.6%, the same as in February), restaurants and hotels (-1.7% vs -3.4%), furnishing (-2.7%, the same as in the previous month), miscellaneous goods and services (-9.6% vs -9.1%) and tobacco and narcotics (-32.7%, the same as in February). On the other hand, the inflation accelerated for housing and utilities (3.7% vs 3.4%) and transport (3.2% vs 1.9%). Compared to the previous month, consumer prices in Somalia jumped 1.8%, the biggest increase in a year.
