The economy of Senegal advanced by 10.4% from a year earlier in the third quarter of 2021, after a record high 10.7% expansion in the previous period. The main positive contribution came from the secondary sector (15.1 percent) and the tertiary sector (10.6 percent), while the primary sector grew 2.9 percent. From a demand perspective, the output was sustained by exports of goods & services (27.8 percent), gross fixed capital formation (10.3 percent), and final consumption (7.9 percent). On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP rose 2.6 percent, following a 4.1 percent increase in the previous period.

Senegal GDP Annual Growth at Record High
The economy of Senegal advanced by 10.9% from a year earlier in the second quarter of 2021, after a 5.1% expansion in the previous period. It was the strongest growth rate ever, largely due to a low base year effect from the previous year when the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic started to be felt. The main positive contribution came from the secondary sector (14.6%), particularly construction (16%), mining activities (38.3%) and manufacturing (11.7%). The services sector also posted notable growth (11%), mainly boosted by information & communication (30.6%), hotels & restaurants (18.9%); transport (12.8%) and business services (13.2%). Finally, primary sector grew 4.5%, driven by agriculture (5.1%) and breeding & hunting (6.4%). On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP rose 4.1%, following a 0.9% increase in the previous period.
