The central bank of Paraguay unanimously decided to increase the monetary policy interest rate by 50 basis points, to 7.75% at its June meeting to tame the surging domestic inflation. The current rate is the highest since November 2011 and the eleventh consecutive hike in interest rate since the monetary authority started tightening in March last year. The annual inflation rate in Paraguay slowed to 11.4% in May from 11.8% in April, amid lower food and fuel inflation.
