Paraguay Inflation Eases in May
The annual inflation rate in Paraguay eased to 11.4 percent in May of 2022 from 11.8 percent in the previous month. Prices slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (18.4 percent vs. 19.8 percent in April) and transport (22.1 percent vs. 24.4 percent). On the other hand, prices advanced faster for housing & utilities (4.9 percent vs. 4.7 percent), furniture & household equipment (5.0 percent from 4.5 percent), and miscellaneous goods & services (5.8 percent vs. 4.9 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2 percent, easing from a 1.5 percent gain in the prior period.
Paraguay Inflation Rate Quickens to Near 11-Year High
The annual inflation rate in Paraguay accelerated for the third straight month to 10.1% in March of 2022, from 9.3% in the prior month. It was the highest reading since May of 2011, mainly on account of soaring prices of transportation (18.2% vs 17.2% in February) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (17.5% vs 15.7%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.8%, slowing from a 1.4% rise in the previous month.
Paraguay Inflation Rate Hit Highest Since 2011
The annual inflation rate in Paraguay accelerated to 9.3 percent in February of 2022 from 7.9 percent in the previous month and marking the highest inflation rate since May of 2011 when consumer prices jumped over 10 percent. Prices rose faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (15.7 percent vs 14.1 percent in January), transport (17.2 percent vs 14.0 percent) and housing & utilities (4.2 percent vs 4.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices jumped 1.4 percent following a 1.5 percent gain in the prior period.
