The number of building consents issued for new dwellings in New Zealand increased 5.8 percent month-over-month to a seasonally adjusted 4580 in March of 2022, easing from an upwardly revised 12.2 percent rise in February. Excluding apartments, flats, and retirement village units, the number of consents fell 0.9 percent in March 2022, following a 3.7 percent rise in February 2022. In the year ended March 2022, the actual number of new dwellings consented was 50,858, up 24 percent from the year ended March 2021.
