Mozambique March Inflation Rate Hits 5-Month Low
The annual inflation rate in Mozambique eased for the second month to 6.67% in March of 2022 from 6.84% in the previous month. It was the lowest reading since last October, mainly due to a deceleration in prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (7.80% vs 8.96% in February); restaurants & hotels (8.45% vs 8.84%); housing & utilities (4.67% vs 4.76%); education (3.67% vs 7.41%). By contrast, inflation continued to climb for transportation (10.04% vs 8.11%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.70%, following a 0.44% increase in the prior month.
