Mexico Car Production Drops Further in September
Mexico’s car production dropped 33.3 percent year-on-year to 208.1 thousand units in September of 2021, the lowest level since May of 2020. Production was lower for most major producers, namely Stellantis (-29.7 percent to 36.8 thousand units), Nissan (-39 percent to 30.5 thousand), General Motors (-73 percent to 20.6 thousand), and Volkswagen (-32.2 percent to 21.7 thousand). Conversely, Ford significantly reinstated production compared to the almost non-existing base year (7,338 percent to 24.1 thousand).

Mexico Car Production Slumps in August
Mexico's car production dropped 21.4 percent year-on-year to 237.0 thousand units in August of 2021, primarily driven by a sharp fall in the three biggest brands due to a global semiconductor shortage. General Motors' output levels plunged 59.2 percent to 28.2 thousand units, Nissan production fell 19.2 percent to 46.9 thousand and Stellantis production decreased 20 percent to 39 thousand. Still, the total car production in the first eight months of 2021 grew 13.3 percent to 2,054.6 thousand.
