The unemployment rate in Macau stood at 2.9 percent in May to July period of 2021, unchanged from the previous three-month period. The number of unemployed decreased by 100 to 11,000. Meanwhile, number of employed went down by 3000 to 372,900 mostly in the hotels, restaurants and similar activities. The labour force participation rate edged down to 67.9 percent from 68.3 percent in the previous three month period.

The unemployment rate in Macau inched down to 2.9 percent in the second quarter of 2021, from 3.0 percent in the three months ending May. The number of unemployed decreased by 6,900 people to 11,100 while the employed population shrank by 700 to 375,900 persons due to jobs lost in the restaurant, hotel, and construction sectors. The labor force participation rate edged lower to 68.3 percent from 68.9 in the previous three-month period.
