Latvia Jobless Rate Lowest in 2 Years
Latvia’s unemployment rate eased to 6.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021 from 7.2 percent in the previous quarter. It was the lowest jobless rate since fourth quarter of 2019 as the number of unemployed declined by 1.4 thousand to 66.5 thousand. Meanwhile the number of employed persons decreased by 12.7 thousand to 864.2 thousand. In Q4, 35.4 thousand unemployed persons were out of work for up to 5 months and 9.4 thousand were unemployed for 6-11 months. Additionally, the number of inactive people fell by 11.7 thousand to 446.9 thousand. A year earlier, the unemployment rate was higher at 7.2 percent. Considering the full 2021-year, Latvia’s unemployment rate stood at 7.6 percent.

Latvia's Jobless Rate Slows to 7.2% in Q3
Latvia’s unemployment rate eased to 7.2 percent in the third quarter of 2021 from 7.9 percent in the previous quarter, as the number of unemployed declined by 5.5 thousand to 67.9 thousand while employment rose by 15 thousand to 877 thousand. In Q3, 33.6 thousand unemployed persons were out of work for up to 5 months and 11.3 thousand were unemployed for 6-11 months. Additionally, the number of inactive people fell by 12.5 thousand to 435.2 thousand. A year earlier, the unemployment rate was higher at 8.4 percent.
