Italy Retail Sales Rebound in August
Retail sales in Italy edged up 0.4 percent over a month in August of 2021, following a downwardly revised 0.3 percent decline in the previous month. Higher sales were driven by rebounds for both non-food products (0.7 percent vs -0.4 percent in July) and food products (0.1 percent vs -0.2 percent). On an annual basis, retail sales advanced 1.9 percent, following a 6.7 percent increase in July.

Retail sales in Italy edged 0.4 percent lower month-over-month in July of 2021, following a 0.7 percent gain in the previous month. It was the steepest contraction in retail activity since January, as sales fell for non-food products (-0.6 percent vs 0.3 percent in June), while food sales were unchanged from the prior month (vs 1.0 percent). On an annual basis, retail sales advanced 6.7 percent in June, after an upwardly revised 7.9 percent jump in June.
