Italy Current Account Swings to Deficit in March
Italy posted a current account deficit of EUR 1.025 billion in March of 2022, swinging from a surplus of EUR 3.05 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. It was the third consecutive current account gap, as the goods account surplus sharply narrowed to EUR 1.107 billion from EUR 5.756 billion a year ago, while the services gap slightly widened to EUR 1.992 billion from EUR 1.937 billion. On the other hand, the primary account surplus grew to EUR 2.904 billion from EUR 2.301 billion and the second account deficit narrowed to EUR 3.044 billion from EUR 3.07 billion.

Italy posted a current account deficit of EUR 1.516 billion in February of 2022, swinging from a EUR 3.665 billion surplus in the corresponding period of the previous year. It was the second consecutive current account gap, as the goods account swung to a deficit of EUR 417 million from a EUR 5.315 billion surplus. On the other hand, the services account gap narrowed to EUR 1.25 billion from EUR 1.545 billion, while the primary account surplus widened to EUR 2.473 billion from EUR 2.247 billion and the secondary account gap slightly narrowed to EUR 2.322 billion from EUR 2.351 billion.
