Indonesia Consumer Confidence
In Indonesia, the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) measures consumer’s expectations about current income and job availability against those 6 months ago, appropriate time to buy durable goods, and general economic conditions and job availability expectations in the next 6 months. The index is based on a survey of around 4600 middle up class households in major cities (those cities cover about 78 percent of GDP). Data is collected through phone interviews and direct visits. The two main components of the Index are the current economic condition index and the consumer expectation index. The CCI is computed as a net balance obtained from the difference between percentage on ’increase’ answer and percentage on ’decrease’ answer. An index above 100 indicates an improving outlook and below 100 a deteriorating outlook.

Indonesia's consumer confidence index increased 2.1 points to 113.1 in April of 2022 from 111.0 in the previous month, due to easing COVID-19 restrictions and increasing vaccinations, with three out of the six main sub-indices rising: current economic conditions (up 5.0 points to 98.9); the assessment of current income (up 4.5 points to 106.2); and job availability compared to six months ago (up 8.2 points to 95.9). Meanwhile, the sub-indices softened for economic outlook (down 0.9 points to 127.2); income expectations for the next six months (down 0.5 points to 131.5); and job availability expectations (down 1.2 points to 125.2).

Indonesia's consumer confidence index fell 2.1 points to 111.0 in March of 2022 from 113.1 in the previous month. The latest figure marked the lowest reading in six months, amid a faster rise in consumer prices, with all sub-indices declining: economic outlook (down 2.7 points to 128.1); current economic conditions (down 1.6 points to 93.9); income expectations for the next six months (down 3.3 points to 132.0); the assessment of current income (down 0.8 points to 101.7); job availability expectations (down 3.3 points to 126.4), and job availability compared to six months ago (down 2.2 points to 87.67).
