Hungary's industrial production grew by 2.6 percent from a year earlier in August of 2021, down from an 8 percent rise in the prior month and missing market expectations of a 4.8 percent gain, a preliminary estimate showed. It was the slowest increase in industrial activity since February, mainly due to a significant contraction in the car sector due to factory shutdowns amid the ongoing global shortage in semiconductors. Output also decreased in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, while it rose in the manufacture of food products.
