Hong Kong’s current account surplus broadened to HKD 78.5 billion in the first quarter of 2022, from HKD 60.7 billion in the same period of the previous year and accounted for 11.6% of GDP. The goods surplus increased to HKD 14.3 billion in the first quarter of 2022, from HKD 6.3 billion in the same quarter of 2021; and the services surplus rose to HKD 43.8 billion from HKD 37.8 billion. The primary income inflow and outflow amounted to HKD 358.2 billion and HKD 334.9 billion respectively, thus yielding a net inflow of HKD 23.2 billion in the first quarter of 2022, compared with a net inflow of HKD 21.5 billion in the same quarter of 2021.
