Greek Retail Trade Growth Picks Up in November
Greece’s retail trade growth jumped 14.7 percent year-on-year in November of 2021 from a downwardly revised 7.9 percent rise in the previous month. It was the steepest increase since May, mainly boosted by sales of clothing and footwear (54.4 percent) and books and stationery (47.2 percent). Additional increases took place for furniture, electrical equipment, and household equipment (44.3 percent) and pharmaceutical products and cosmetics (17.6 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade decreased by 2.6 percent.
Greek Retail Trade Growth Picks Up in October
Greece's retail trade growth accelerated to 10.1 percent year-on-year in October 2021 from a revised 9.6 percent in the previous month, mainly boosted by sales of clothing and footwear (30.8 percent), books, stationery, other goods (22.3 percent), pharmaceutical products, cosmetics (8.0 percent), supermarkets (7.2 percent), and automotive fuel (3.0 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade rose by 2.8 percent.
Greek Retail Sales Surges by 10%
Greece's retail trade growth accelerated to 10.1 percent year-on-year in September 2021, from a downwardly revised 5.3 percent in the previous month, boosted by sales of apparel, footwear, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Trade has been growing strongly since April, when the country allowed retail shops to reopen following many months of restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. On a monthly basis, retail sales increased by 2.2 percent in September.
