French Services PMI Revised Slightly Down
The S&P Global France Services PMI fell to 58.3 in May of 2022, from an over four-year high of 58.9 in April and compared to a flash estimate of 58.4. Still, the latest reading pointed to the 14th straight month of expansion in services activity and at a healthy pace. Both output and new orders continued to advance solidly, buoyed by strong demand conditions as a result of the removal of pandemic restrictions in recent months. Employment also rose at its sharpest pace for seven months. On the price front, there was a further surge in input costs amid supply issues, as well as rising wage bills and energy costs. As a result, output prices were raised to the greatest extent on record in May. Finally, firms were optimistic of an increase in activity over the next 12 months, with the degree of positivity strengthening to a three-month high.
