Payroll employment in the French private sector rose by 66.1 thousand, or 0.3 percent, to 20.13 million in the first quarter of 2022, slowing from a 117.9 thousand increase in the previous three-month period, a preliminary estimate showed. Still, it was the fifth successive quarterly gain in job creation, led by an increase in market services employment (27.4 thousand), industry (3.1 thousand), and construction (6 thousand). By contrast, agriculture cut 0.1 thousand jobs. Year-on-year, payrolls were up 576.7 thousand, or 2.9 percent.

French Q4 Private Payroll Employment Revised Higher
Payroll employment in the French private sector rose by 117.9 thousand, or 0.6 percent, to 20.06 million in the fourth quarter of 2021, more than initially thought of 106.7 thousand, and following a 109.5 thousand increase in the previous three-month period. It was the fourth successive quarterly gain in job creation, led by an increase in market services employment (99.4 thousand). Employment also increased in construction (6.3 thousand), industry (4.9 thousand), agriculture (4.8 thousand), and non-market services (2.4 thousand). Year-on-year, payrolls were up 677.7 thousand, or 3.5 percent.
