The IHS Markit France Construction PMI rose to 50.9 in May of 2022 from 50.6 in the prior month, marking a second successive mild expansion in French construction activity but still the fastest in four months. The increase in overall activity was only driven by civil engineering as commercial and residential building work declined. Firms expanded both purchasing activity and workforce numbers. Meanwhile, new orders fell at the strongest pace in nine months amid rising prices and reports of client hesitancy. There was also evidence of substantial supply constraints during May with average input lead times lengthening considerably amid frequent mentions of supply shortages. In terms of prices, the rate of input price inflation was the second-sharpest on record. Finally, business sentiment reached the highest in four months amid hopes of supportive demand conditions. source: Markit Economics
