Euro Area ZEW Economic Sentiment Index
In the Euro Area, the ZEW Economic Sentiment Index measures the level of optimism that analysts have about the expected economic developments over the next 6 months. The survey covers up to 350 financial and economic analysts. The index is constructed as the difference between the percentage share of analysts that are optimistic and the percentage of analysts that are pessimistic about the development of the economy. Therefore, the ZEW indicator measures the confidence on a scale of -100 (all analysts expect the economy to deteriorate) up to 100 (all analysts expect it to improve). A 0 value indicates neutrality.

Eurozone Investor Morale Improves in May
The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for the Euro Area rose sharply to -29.5 in May of 2022, from an over two-year low of -43 in April. Inflation expectations for the euro area decreased by 36.5 points to -10.6, although the indicator for the current economic situation in the Eurozone fell by 6.5 points to -35.

Eurozone Investor Morale Slips to Over 2-Year Low
The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for the Euro Area fell further to -43 in April of 2022, from -38.7 in the prior month. It was the lowest reading since March of 2020, as the economic outlook is expected to worsen amid the adverse effects of the war in Ukraine. In April, 57.7 percent of the surveyed analysts expected deterioration in economic activity, 27.6 percent expected no changes while 14.7 percent predicted an improvement. In addition, the indicator of the current economic situation dropped by 6.6 points to -28.5 while inflation expectations fell by 43.6 points to 25.9.
