Estonian Jobless Rate Jumps to 7.1% in Q1
Estonia's unemployment rate surged to 7.1 percent in the first quarter of 2021 from 5.0 percent in the corresponding period last year, as the number of unemployed increased by 13,5 thousand to 48.7 thousand while the number of employed dropped by 29.6 thousand to 640.7 thousand, reflecting the impact of the crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19. The labor force participation rate decreased to 70.7 percent from 71.7 percent in the same period of 2020 while the employment rate fell to 65.7 percent from 68.1 percent. In the fourth quarter 2020, the jobless rate was at 7.4 percent.
