Egypt's unemployment rate fell to 7.3 percent in the second quarter of 2021 compared to a near two-year high of 9.6 percent in the same period a year ago and 7.4 percent in the previous quarter. The number of unemployed persons declined by 459 thousand to 2.115 million, including more than 1.3 million males and 732 thousand females.

Egypt Q4 Jobless Rate Lowest since 2003
Egypt's unemployment rate fell to 7.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared to 8 percent in the same period a year ago and 7.3 percent in the previous quarter. It was the lowest jobless rate since comparable data began in 2003, amid the continued return of normal daily activities, after the end of the closure decisions and partial curfew taken by the state to limit the spread of coronavirus. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 163 thousand to 2.166 million. The jobless rate went down in both urban areas (11.4 percent vs 11.5 percent in Q4 2019) and rural areas (4 percent vs 5.4 percent).
