Egypt’s unemployment rate edged up to 7.5 percent in the third quarter of 2021 from 7.3 percent in the same period a year ago and 7.3 percent in the previous quarter. It was the highest jobless rate since the second quarter of 2020, attributed to the influx of new graduates during the months of August and September into the labor market. The number of unemployed persons increased by 150 thousand to 2.2 million in the third quarter.
