Retail trade in the Czech Republic expanded by 5.5 percent year-on-year in March of 2022, following a 4.1 percent rise in the previous month but missing market expectations of a 5.8 percent gain. It was the fastest growth in retail trade activity as sales advanced significantly for non-food products (8.3 percent vs 8.1 percent), and automotive fuel (18.8 percent vs 14.5 percent) while declined at a softer pace for food, beverages and tobacco (-1.6 percent vs -3.5 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales declined 0.1 percent, after a 0.2 percent fall in the prior month.

Czech Republic Retail Sales Miss Forecasts
Retail trade in the Czech Republic expanded by 4.6 percent year-on-year in February of 2022, following a downwardly revised 9.4 percent jump in the previous month and missing market expectations of a 5.2 percent gain. It was the softest increase in retail activity since November last year, as sales growth eased sharply for non-food products (9.8 percent vs 15.2 percent in January) and to a lesser extent, for food, beverages and tobacco (-3.8 percent vs 1.2 percent). In contrast, sales of automotive fuel went up at a faster pace (12.3 percent vs 11 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales stagnated, after an upwardly revised 2.2 percent rise in the prior month.
