Cyprus Construction Output Rebounds in Q1
Construction output in Cyprus rebounded 4.0 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2021, following a downwardly revised -1.9 percent shrink in the previous quarter. It was the strongest rise in construction activity since the last quarter of 2019. Output rebounded in both civil engineering works (31.3 percent vs -1.7 percent in Q4) and building activities (0.7 percent vs -1.9 percent). Compared to the last quarter, construction output decreased 15.5 percent.
Cyprus Construction Output Shrinks in Q4
Construction output in Cyprus shrank 2.2 percent year-on-year in the final quarter of 2020, following a downwardly revised 0.1 percent growth in the previous period and it was the softest contraction in construction output in 2020. Output retreated in building activities (-1.1 percent vs 1.3 percent in Q3) and fell at a faster pace in civil engineering works (-8.6 percent vs -7.4 percent). Considering full 2020, construction output plunged 7.5 percent, following an 11.9 percent expansion in the previous year.
Cyprus Construction Output Rebounds in Q3
Construction output in Cyprus increased 0.7 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2020, rebounding from an upwardly revised 23.4 percent slump in the previous period. It was the first gain in construction output since the last quarter of 2019, mainly due to a rebound in building activity (2.3 percent vs -25.8 percent in Q3). On the other hand, civil engineering works decreased faster (-9.1 percent vs -5.5 percent).
