Colombia’s retail sales jumped by 12 percent year-on-year in March of 2022, following an upwardly revised 5 percent increase in the previous month and well above market forecasts of a 6.1 percent rise. It marks the 14th consecutive month of growth in retail activity. The most significant increases in retail activity were recorded in sales of fuels (+11.8 percent), computers and telecommunication equipment (+58.9 percent) and other vehicles and motorcycles (+18.8 percent), home appliances, furniture (+32.2 percent) and clothing & textiles (+31.3 percent).

Colombia Retail Sales Growth Slows Sharply
Colombia’s retail sales annual growth slowed sharply to 4.9 percent in February of 2022, from an upwardly revised, five-month high jump of 21.0 percent in the previous month. It was the slowest expansion in the retail sector since February 2021. The most important contributions came from sales of fuels (10.1 percent); vehicle parts, accessories, and lubricants (16.9 percent); and textiles and clothing (29.0 percent). On the other hand, sales declined for vehicles and motorcycles (-5.5 percent), food (-1.5 percent) and home appliances, furniture (-6.4 percent).
