China Auto Sales Fall in April on Covid Curbs
China's auto sales plunged 47.6% year-on-year to 1.18 million units in April of 2022, the biggest drop since March of 2020, as coronavirus curbs lowered production and kept consumers out of showrooms. Considering the first four months of 2022, auto sales fell 12% from a year earlier. On the other hand, sales of new-energy vehicles jumped 44.6% in April and 112% in January-April.

Auto sales in China declined by 11 percent year-on-year to 2.25 million units in March of 2022, shifting from a 18.7 percent growth a month earlier, data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed. This was the first drop in three months, amid widespread COVID-19 cases and mobility restrictions. Considering the first three months of the year, auto sales edged up 0.5 percent from the same period of 2021 to 6.52 million units. In 2021, sales increased 3.8 percent from a year earlier to 26.28 million units, up for the first time in three years.
