Chile recorded a current account deficit of USD 2,638 million in the second quarter of 2021, swinging from a surplus of USD 2,483 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. The primary income deficit jumped to USD 4,922 million from USD 2,758 million and secondary income surplus decreased to USD 11 million from USD 399 million. Meantime, the good surplus went down to USD 4,174 million from USD 5,950 million while services shortfall widened to USD 1,902 million from USD 1,107 million.

Chile Current Account Deficit Widens in Q1
Chile current account gap widened to USD 1,554 million in first quarter of 2021, from a USD 244 million deficit in the corresponding period of the previous year. The primary income deficit increased to USD 3,845 million from USD 2,376 million, while the secondary income switched to a gap of USD 66 million from a USD 235 million surplus. On the other hand, the good surplus increased to USD 3,957 million from USD 3,079 million, but this was partially offset by the increase in the services account shortfall to USD 1,600 million from USD 1,182 million.
