Retail sales in Bulgaria rose 8.4 percent year-on-year in September of 2021, after a 12 percent increase in the previous month. It was the fifth straight month of slowing retail activity growth as sales rose less for food, beverages & tobacco (5.9 percent vs 10.5 percent in August), and non-food products (11.8 percent vs 14.2 percent), namely other retail sale in non-specialised stores (3.6 percent vs 14.5 percent), automotive fuel (3.5 percent vs 8.5 percent), and audio & video equipment (10.3 percent vs 10.9 percent). In addition, sales declined further for clothing, footwear & leather goods (-7.6 percent vs -6.2 percent), and mail order houses or via the internet (-2.8 percent vs 8.0 percent).
