Retail sales in Bulgaria rose 12 percent year-on-year in August of 2021, easing from a 20.2 percent increase in the previous month. It was the fourth straight month of slowing retail activity growth. Sales rose at a softer pace for food, beverages & tobacco (10.5 percent vs 21 percent in July) and non-food products (14.2 percent vs 21.8 percent), namely housed appliances (10.9 percent vs 15.4 percent), computer & software sales (9 percent vs 24 percent), and automotive fuel (8.5 percent vs 14.5 percent). Also, sales fell further for clothing, footwear & leather goods (-6.2 percent vs -2.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 1.1 percent, from a downwardly revised 1.2 percent decrease in June.

Bulgaria Retail Trade Growth Eases For 3rd Month
Retail sales in Bulgaria rose 20.2 percent year-on-year in July of 2021, easing from a 22.7 percent increase in the previous month. It was the third straight month of slowing retail activity. Sales rose at a slower pace for non-food products (21.8 percent vs 29.3 percent in June), mainly computers, software and telecommunications equipment (24.3 percent vs 37.5 percent); household appliances (15.4 percent vs 19.2 percent); mail order houses or via internet (15.9 percent vs 22.3 percent) and automotive fuel in specialized stores (14.5 percent vs 15.9 percent) and sales fell for textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods (-2.7 percent vs 10.5 percent). Meanwhile sales advanced faster for food, beverages and tobacco (21 percent vs 16.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales edged up 1 percent, easing from a downwardly revised 1.4 percent increase in June.
