Bulgaria’s trade deficit edged down to BGN 856.1 million in March of 2022 from BGN 866.7 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Exports rose by 38.9 percent to an all-time high of BGN 8086.5 million, due to higher sales to both EU countries (49.5 percent) and other countries (19.6 percent). Meanwhile, imports surged by a softer 33.7 percent year-on-year to a record high of BGN 8942.6 million, amid higher purchases from both EU (32.2 percent) and non-EU countries (35.8 percent).

Bulgaria Trade Gap Widens in February
Bulgaria’s trade deficit widened to BGN 1043.6 million in February of 2022 from BGN 372 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Imports rose by 41.5 percent to an all-time high of BGN 7691 million, due to higher purchases from both EU countries (27.7 percent) and from other countries (65.2 percent). Meanwhile, exports surged by a softer 31.3 percent year-on-year to a record high of BGN 6647.4 million, as sales rose to both EU (31.8 percent) and non-EU countries (30.4 percent).
