Brazil Posts Lowest Car Output for July since 2003
Car production in Brazil declined 2 percent over a month earlier to 163.6 thousand units in July of 2021, the lowest level for a July month since 2003. Output fell for buses (-5.5 percent to 1.5 thousand) and light vehicles (-2.3 percent to 147.2 thousand). On the other hand, production increased for trucks (1.1 percent to 14.8 thousand). On a yearly basis, car production shrank 4.2 percent.

Car production in Brazil slumped 13.4 percent over a month earlier to 166.9 thousand units in June of 2021, the smallest figure since June of 2020. On a yearly basis, car output surged 69.6%, mainly due to low base effects from the previous year when production plunged due to disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Car production in Brazil rose 1.0 percent over a month earlier to 192.8 thousand units in May of 2021. Output increased 0.8 percent to 177.3 thousand for light vehicles and 6.2 percent to 13.9 thousand for trucks, while production of buses fell by 11.6 percent to 1.7 thousand units. Meantime, exports of vehicles jumped 9.1 percent to 37.0 thousand in May. Considering the first 5 months of 2021, car production advanced 55.6 percent to 981.5 thousand compared to the same period of last year, while exports surged 66.5 percent to 166.6 thousand.
