Belgium Current Account Swings to Deficit in Q1
Belgium’s current account swung into a deficit of EUR 762 million in the first quarter of 2022, from a EUR 808 million surplus in the corresponding period of the previous year. The goods account shifted to a deficit of EUR 2,362 million from a surplus of EUR 141 million while the services surplus narrowed to EUR 1,634 million from EUR 1,983 million. Belgium Current Account Swings to Deficit in Q4
Belgium recorded a current account deficit of EUR 6,249 million in the fourth quarter of 2021, swinging from a EUR 0.438 million surplus in the corresponding period of the previous year. It was the first current account deficit since the second quarter of 2019 and the highest since the second quarter of 2015. The goods account recorded a deficit of EUR 4.761 million, swinging from the gap of EUR 1.607 million. Also, the services gap widened to EUR 0.910 million from EUR 0.243, million while the primary income deficit narrowed to EUR 0.671 million from EUR 1.066 million. On the other hand, the secondary income gap narrowed to EUR 1.251 million from EUR 1.993 million.

Belgium Current Account Surplus Widens in Q3
Belgium’s current account surplus widened sharply to EUR 5,226 million in the third quarter of 2021 from EUR 782 million in the corresponding period of 2020. The goods surplus rose to EUR 6,283 million from EUR 1,607 million and the primary income surplus climbed to EUR 1,659 million from EUR 1,066 million. Also, the secondary income deficit narrowed to EUR 1,567 million from EUR 1,993 million while the services gap increased to EUR 1,149 million from EUR 469 million.
