Belgium Business Morale Dips Slightly in May
The business confidence barometer in Belgium fell to 1.8 points in May of 2022 from 2.4 in the prior month. Sentiments deteriorated sharply for building industry (-2 vs 2.2 in April), and trade (-7.9 vs 0.3). Meanwhile business confidence rose slightly in business related services (12.4 vs 11.7) amid more favourable forecasts of market demand, following last month’s sharp decline. Also, confidence revived to a small extent in manufacturing industry (1 vs 0.5) due to a more positive assessment of the current level of order books and an improvement in demand expectations.

Belgium Business Morale Rebounds in April
The business confidence barometer in Belgium rose to 2.4 points in April of 2022, rebounding from the one-year low of 0.4 in the prior month. Sentiment significantly rebounded for trade (0.3 vs -6.5 in March), largely due to higher intentions of placing orders and demand expectations. Sentiment also rebounded for the manufacturing industry (0.5 vs -2.7) and improved in the building industry (2.1 vs 1.2). On the other hand, confidence eased for business-related services (11.7 vs 15.1).
